Moto Guzzi 850 Café Racer – Replacing Oil Lines & Fitting New Oil Hose

The Moto Guzzi 850 café racer build continues with the replacement of the old and brittle oil hoses on this classic 1975 Moto Guzzi 850T. Accessing the oil lines proves considerably more involved than the earlier fuel-line work, with the hoses buried inside the frame beneath electrical components including the regulator and rectifier.

This stage of the custom motorcycle build covers making up new oil hoses, choosing single-ear hose clips, removing the regulator and rectifier to gain access, and carefully removing the old Moto Guzzi oil lines. The oil catch can and existing hoses are also removed before the parts are cleaned and the new oil hoses are fitted.

The episode also includes a look at the oil sump area and some parts cleaning using a sonic parts cleaner. Replacing old fuel and oil hoses is an important part of recommissioning a classic motorcycle, particularly when building a café racer from a machine that has been sitting for many years.

This Moto Guzzi 850T project is intended to become a very different custom café racer from my previous motorcycle builds. The project is being developed stage by stage, covering everything from the initial strip-down and frame modifications through custom controls, fuel and oil systems, electrical work and the eventual finishing of the motorcycle.
