Moto Guzzi 850 Café Racer – Replacing Fuel & Oil Lines

The Moto Guzzi 850 café racer build continues with the replacement of the old fuel and oil lines on this classic 50-year-old motorcycle. This stage of the Tink Customs Moto Guzzi 850T project focuses on renewing the ageing fuel system and oil lines before the bike is rebuilt and recommissioned as a custom café racer.

The Moto Guzzi 850 has a relatively complex fuel line arrangement, with hoses running from the dual fuel petcocks across the motorcycle to the individual carburetors. We remove the old brittle fuel lines, test fit the petcocks and look at the fuel line routing, cross piece, hose clips and replacement fuel hose needed for the new setup.

Replacing the oil lines proves considerably more difficult. The lines are positioned deep inside the motorcycle frame beneath electrical components including the ignition coils, regulator and rectifier. Access therefore requires some careful disassembly before the old oil lines can be reached and replaced.

Although fuel and oil lines may not be the most visible parts of a café racer build, they are important components when bringing an older motorcycle back into reliable running condition. Replacing deteriorated hoses and checking the routing and connections is part of the groundwork needed before the larger Moto Guzzi 850 custom motorcycle project can progress.

Follow the continuing Moto Guzzi 850 café racer build as we work through the mechanical, electrical, fabrication and styling changes needed to transform this classic Moto Guzzi into a unique custom motorcycle.
