Moto Guzzi 850 Café Racer – Electrical System & Wiring
The Moto Guzzi 850 café racer build moves on to the motorcycle's original electrical system and wiring. Much of the wiring appears to be original and has survived remarkably well considering the age of the bike, but this custom motorcycle project provides an opportunity to rethink the layout, improve accessibility and replace or renew components where necessary.
This episode examines the Moto Guzzi 850 electrical system, including the ignition coils, regulator, rectifier and the wiring connecting these components. The original arrangement is assessed before the coils, regulator and rectifier are repositioned to make the electrical components easier to access and to create a cleaner layout for the finished café racer.
A major part of the plan is to run wiring through the motorcycle frame itself. Concealing the wiring inside the frame should produce a much tidier appearance while helping to protect the electrical wiring as the custom Moto Guzzi 850 build progresses.
The episode is therefore as much about planning the electrical system as it is about making changes. Understanding the original Moto Guzzi wiring and deciding what should be retained, moved or replaced is an important part of converting a classic motorcycle into a modernised café racer without losing the character of the original machine.
This is another stage in the ongoing Moto Guzzi 850T custom motorcycle build, following the frame modifications, custom controls, fuel and oil line replacement and custom exhaust work. The project is being developed one section at a time, with the eventual goal of creating a clean and distinctive Moto Guzzi café racer.
