Engine Painting & Detailing

The 1977 Kawasaki KZ650 Cafe Racer engine gets a fresh finish as we remove the carburetors, clean the engine and carefully mask it before applying heat-resistant engine paint.

Removing the carburetors makes access to the engine block much easier and gives us room to prepare the surfaces properly. A significant amount of masking is then required to protect the surrounding components, with some useful masking techniques used to prevent overspray reaching areas that need to remain untouched.

The engine is painted with a low-gloss heat-resistant finish, using green and black to complement the custom paint scheme being developed for the KZ650. Other engine components are also cleaned and prepared for reassembly, helping bring the original Kawasaki engine back to life as part of the cafe racer restoration.
