Kawasaki KZ650 Custom Seat & Tail Mount | Cafe Racer

The 1977 Kawasaki KZ650 Cafe Racer gets a simpler custom seat mounting solution as we modify the original tail piece and work out a practical quick-release arrangement for the one-off cafe racer seat.

The original Kawasaki tail piece only needs a few minor modifications to improve its fit and clean up its appearance. After experimenting with different ways of mounting the custom seat, including fabricating a seat base and investigating hinge fittings, we eventually find a much simpler solution that had been staring us in the face all along.

The seat is modified to suit the new mounting arrangement, giving the KZ650 a practical quick-release seat while keeping the rear of the cafe racer clean and uncluttered. We also swap the original headlight for a more conventional LED unit and carry out some additional custom painting as the KZ650 continues through its final finishing stages.
