Axel Joost Elektronikbox Version B Installation

The 1977 Kawasaki KZ650 Cafe Racer gets a major electrical overhaul as we remove the original wiring loom and install an Axel Joost Elektronikbox Version B, also known as a B-Unit.

After making a mess of the original Kawasaki wiring, we decide to replace the existing arrangement with a modern electrical control module. Having already used a Motogadget m.unit Blue on the Honda CB750, this build takes a different route with the Axel Joost Elektronikbox Version B, which costs considerably less than the Motogadget alternative.

We work through positioning the B-Unit, preparing the wiring and connecting the inputs and outputs before removing the factory wiring loom. The Elektronikbox is then mounted, the coils and power connections are addressed, and the system is tested.

The testing includes the main power, headlight, tail light, brake light and starter motor. There is also some discussion around the coil and ignition wiring, making this a useful real-world look at fitting an Axel Joost Elektronikbox Version B to a classic Kawasaki.
