Lister Bell Lancia Stratos Track Test | Arizona Motorsports Park
A track test of a Lister Bell Lancia Stratos replica at Arizona Motorsports Park (AMP) in west Phoenix, Arizona.
After around 500 miles of running in the engine, the Lister Bell Stratos was ready for a proper track day shakedown. The cylinder heads were tightened down, the rocker cover gaskets replaced, the timing belts checked and the suspension mounts and other components inspected before heading to the track.
Lister Bell Stratos Track Test
Arizona Motorsports Park was the perfect place to give the car a proper shake down and find any problems before putting more miles on it.
The engine temperatures, oil pressure and oil temperature all remained good throughout the day. There was a small leak from the recently replaced rocker cover gaskets, but that was quickly dealt with by tightening them up.
Out on track, the Lister Bell Stratos felt planted and predictable. It isn't built around outright modern-day horsepower — the original Lancia Stratos was never about huge power — but the combination of wider tyres, improved chassis design and modern suspension gives the Lister Bell version a very different feel.
The rear stepped out a couple of times during the track test, but a quick correction and getting back onto the throttle brought it straight back into line.
Most importantly, everything held together well. The track day proved to be a very promising first shakedown for the Lister Bell Stratos.
Driving the Lancia Stratos Replica
This Lister Bell Stratos is powered by a Busso 3.0 litre 12-valve Alfa Romeo V6 taken from a 1992 Alfa Romeo 164. Producing just over 200bhp, the engine provides plenty of performance for a lightweight Stratos replica.
Lister Bell built the car as a turnkey project, including the chassis, bodywork, suspension, brakes and electrics, with the engine installation completed by Italian Design & Racing in Mesa, Phoenix, Arizona.
The result is a modern interpretation of the legendary Lancia Stratos, retaining the compact proportions and distinctive character of the original while benefiting from modern chassis and suspension engineering.
Arizona Motorsports Park Track Day
The video includes several sessions on track as the car is checked between runs, followed by a trip to Fountain Hills for the annual Concours in the Hills car show.
