BMW K75 Cafe Racer | MIG Welding & Custom Frame Fabrication
Building a custom motorcycle frame means eventually having to learn how to weld — and that's exactly what happens in this stage of the BMW K75 cafe racer build.
Starting with one of the cheapest MIG welders available, the first challenge is learning the basics and understanding just how much difference the equipment makes. After upgrading the welder and helmet, there's plenty of practice with different settings and techniques before tackling the actual motorcycle frame.
The fabrication work begins with the rear frame and shock mount, with the new sections gradually taking shape. Frame strength is an important consideration, so different approaches are tested before committing to the final welds.
But there's also an unconventional experiment along the way. Modern metal welding epoxy — effectively "metal glue" — gets put to the test to see whether it could provide a useful alternative for any part of the fabrication.
After plenty of practice, adjustments and a few questionable welds, the custom BMW K75 rear frame is finally completed.
