BMW K75 Cafe Racer Electrics | Wiring, LED Lights & TENET Speedo
BMW K75 cafe racer electrics and wiring are the focus of this stage of the custom motorcycle build, including LED sequential indicators, BMW switchgear wiring, Deutsch electrical connectors, brake and clutch switches, rear LED lighting and the aftermarket LED headlight.
With much of the fabrication on the BMW K75 cafe racer taking shape, it's time to continue working through the electrical system and start connecting the controls and lighting that will eventually get the motorcycle back on the road.
BMW K75 Switchgear Wiring
The original BMW K75 switchgear needs to work with the modified electrical and lighting setup, so one of the first jobs is identifying and organizing the switchgear wiring.
Rather than replacing everything simply because this is a custom motorcycle build, I'm retaining useful BMW components where they make sense and adapting the wiring around the changes being made to the bike.
Deutsch contact connectors provide a neat way of making removable electrical connections while keeping the custom wiring organized and serviceable.
Clutch and Front Brake Switches
The smaller electrical components can easily get overlooked during a cafe racer build. The clutch switch and front brake light switch both need to be considered as the handlebars, controls and wiring are reorganized.
Working through these systems individually also makes it considerably easier to troubleshoot the BMW K75 wiring than trying to connect the entire motorcycle electrical system at once.
LED Sequential Indicators
The custom BMW K75 uses wrap-around LED sequential blinkers for a much cleaner appearance than the original indicators.
Integrating aftermarket LED motorcycle lighting into an older wiring system means identifying the appropriate connections and making sure the new components work correctly with the remaining BMW electrical system.
Rear LED Light and Wiring
At the back of the cafe racer I fabricate a mounting solution for the rear LED light before moving on to its electrical connections.
The aim is to keep the rear of the BMW visually clean while still providing the necessary tail light, brake light and indicator functions.
BMW K75 LED Headlight Wiring
The aftermarket LED headlight is another major part of the K75 electrical work in this episode.
I work through the headlight wiring and connections needed to integrate the modern LED headlight with the BMW switchgear and the rest of the custom motorcycle wiring.
TENET Speedo for BMW K-Series
The final job in this episode is mounting the TENET speedometer being used on the BMW K75 cafe racer.
The TENET system is designed for BMW K-Series motorcycles and provides a route to replacing the large original BMW instrument cluster with a much smaller aftermarket speedometer while retaining the K-bike's electrical functions.
In this episode I'm only mounting and positioning the TENET speedo. The electrical connection and setup will be covered separately as the BMW K75 wiring progresses.
BMW K75 Wiring Diagrams and Downloads
As the electrical system develops, I'll add useful BMW K75 wiring diagrams, connector information and downloadable electrical references to this page.
These resources will document the wiring used during the cafe racer build and provide additional information for anyone working on a BMW K75 or other BMW K-Series custom motorcycle.
