DIY Motorcycle Seat Pan from Plastic Cutting Board | Cafe Racer
Can a plastic chopping board really be turned into a motorcycle seat pan? In this episode of the BMW K75 cafe racer build, I put the idea to the test.
The concept is surprisingly simple: take a thick plastic cutting board, heat it with a propane torch and carefully mould it to follow the shape of the BMW K75 frame. Once cooled, the resulting plastic seat pan provides a lightweight custom base that fits the rear of the bike.
With the basic shape working, the next challenge is adding the seat foam and dealing with the practical problems that come with upholstering the unusual material. When the plastic proves too hard to staple, a simple wooden seat base provides another solution.
The rear of the motorcycle also gets reorganised, with the ECU and electrical components being relocated underneath the new seat. An electrical tray is fabricated to keep everything secure and hidden, while different ECU mounting solutions are explored.

Sometimes the best custom motorcycle solutions aren't the most conventional ones. This plastic cutting board experiment produces a surprisingly effective seat pan while solving several packaging problems around the rear of the BMW K75.
It's a useful example of the trial-and-error side of cafe racer building — trying an inexpensive idea, seeing whether it works, and adapting the design when it doesn't quite go to plan.
