BMW K75 Cafe Racer Time-Lapse Build – And We're Not Finished Yet
Our BMW K75 cafe racer time-lapse has been getting plenty of attention on YouTube, bringing together more than 20 individual build episodes into one fast-moving look at the transformation so far. And so far is the important bit — this isn't the finished BMW K75.
The time-lapse follows the project from the original stock BMW K75 through the teardown, weight reduction, ABS removal, lowered front suspension, refurbished wheels, custom mudguard, frame modifications, rearsets, seat development, paint experiments and plenty of the fabrication and engineering challenges encountered along the way.
It's a chance to watch months of work — and quite a few changes of direction — condensed into a single BMW K75 cafe racer transformation.
A BMW K75 Cafe Racer Build in Progress
One of the fun things about putting the time-lapse together was seeing just how dramatically the motorcycle has already changed.
The original K75 was never exactly a lightweight, minimalist motorcycle, so transforming BMW's famously practical K-Series "Flying Brick" into a stripped-down custom cafe racer has involved considerably more than simply fitting a different seat and handlebars.
Weight has come off, the stance has changed, the frame has evolved and a lot of the original BMW equipment has either been modified, relocated or removed altogether.
But the project is still underway.
More BMW K75 Build Episodes to Come
The time-lapse represents Part 1 of the build, and work on the K75 has continued since the footage included in it.
There are still more individual episodes to come as I work through the remaining fabrication, electrics and wiring, lighting, controls, finishing details and all those inevitable little jobs that appear when you think you're getting close to the end of a custom motorcycle build.
Once we've actually got a finished BMW K75 cafe racer, there will also be enough new material for the story to continue beyond this first time-lapse.
For now, you can watch the transformation so far and then dive into the individual episodes if you want to see how each part of the build was actually done.
